I know that the owners manual states a "short drive" is required after a battery disconnection, I have tried this with some aggressive turns both ways thrown in to try and get it to re-initalize. As i have a genuine Ross-Tech Mirco-Can cable and software i plugged this in, which throws up the steering angle sensor as having the following fault. Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left. If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight.
Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again. Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition. System voltage at least Last edited by Calvinx; January 3rd, at Reason: my spelling is cack.

Can you tell me the email address of VW customer services in wolfsberg Germany? So im told its fixed but im still no clearer why they part suddenly failed after fitting a new battery in the corect manner!!! I had my battery out of the car for about a month when I changed my clutch and had absolutely no problems with the steering readapting. I backed out of the driveway and within 2 blocks the steering lights went out. I did charge the battery for about a day prior to hooking it up.
It is possible that your new battery sat on the shelf for a long time and didn't have a complete charge. I probably would have tried charging the battery and then trying the adaption again. I have heard that the charging systems and electronics on these cars can give you problems if you don't start out with a fully charged battery. But they came back and said "we now think the fault lies with the steering ECU" hmmmmmmmmmm after two previous FAILED diagnoses I am by now not convinced of the technical abilities of these guys!!!
So the wife tells them to install the part, as this part will now be their THIRD attempt to repair the vehicle.
As the FAILED second diagnosis was on a Friday and they close at 2pm we now have to Jump to the following Monday, and drop the car off at am and ask them to keep us informed of proceedings, they come back and finally tell us after we have harassed them for info that the THIRD diagnosis did not repair the car Doh!!!!!!!
Methinks you guys are only used to brakes, oil changes and the like……. So Friday afternoon pm we rock up to inspect the progress as they close at 2pm on a Friday. We sneak round the side on another building and look in the open workshop door and the car is still approx. But that the steering assist was now operational!!!!!It can indicate a major or minor complication, but ignoring it definitely makes the problem worse, leading to costly damage and repair.

The I call RACV, a guy came and first tried with tiny battery pack, connected to jumper start, but didn't start and some alarm went off and display went blank. Then he suggested to use more powerful source he had and it seemed had enough power he should have done it at the first place without disconnecting the power terminalbut computer asked for code before it starts. I have no idea about what is that 4 digit code and does anybody know how to reset that code?
Also is that OK to charge the battery with external battery charger through the jumper start terminals without remove the battery out of the car while the battery is fixed in the car?

The battery reads I have checked all appropriate fuses, tried to start it with the intelligent battery sensor disconnected and connected but still nothing when I try to start it. Lights are bright and no warnings on the screen. After changing the battery, all was going well. However, the car is running just fine, fortunately. The dealership technicians told me that there is no communication with any of the modules and that they need to be replaced.
It sounds like the PCM powertrain control module and the BCM body control module have malfunctioned because of a shortage in the battery system. This could have happened when the battery failed, was removed, or installed. One explanation for why the car is still working is that the PCM and the BCM has not completely failed, which is allowing it to still function. The charging system in my car was fine. It was barely cranking for about a week and then finally died It would crank and then totally shut down. Couldn't charge it. Couldn't jump it. After the repair is complete, however, it may still be necessary to reset your the computer in order for the warning light or lights to disappear. Fortunately, this process is fairly simple. Open the hood of your vehicle. If the hood is not hydraulic, use your vehicle's hood stand to prop it open temporarily. Loosen the nut that holds the negative terminal to the battery with the pliers. The negative terminal is labeled with a minus sign - or is black in color; the positive terminal is red.

This will disconnect the power from your vehicle's computer. Leave the battery disconnected for 10 minutes to ensure that the computer is fully reset. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the terminal and tighten the nut that holds it in place. Close the vehicle's hood and start your car to check that the computer has reset and that the warning lights have disappeared.
